A Royal Gift

April 29, 2011

"Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife... and they become one flesh." Genesis 2: 24 What a beautiful wedding we were witness to today. Pageantry and pomp a plenty... angel voices and trumpet sound. The Royal Wedding was all it was built up to be. HRH Catherine was truly beautiful and her Prince looked like he could hardly wait for the royal kiss! What a day of celebration in a country and a world that could surely use a little celebration! We were the recipients of a royal gift! The Brits know how to throw a seamless party and the world had fun in it. Thank you, Catherine and William for sharing your big day with all of us, and bless you in your marriage. I hope you heard all the Bishop of London said to you in his homily..... you know I paid attention to that part! He blessed you for your love and for the witness of your lives. And he charged you with knowing your place in the world, and for knowing the responsibility that is on you to use your position and your power for good in the world. God's love lived out through you will be blessing that your country and all the world needs. For all who criticize the expense and frivolity of such a wedding show, remember that Jesus also loved the wedding party, and when the wine ran out, he showed his hand in a miracle. The wedding is one thing, becoming one flesh in a marriage that works is quite another. As the day and the receptions and parties continue, may you know the blessing of love in this time and grow in love for one another and for God. May you give of your gifts and your resources and live a life worthy of a king. Congratulations and blessings to you!
